There are many misconceptions about the Trump’s laser cooling water maintenance cycle.
We always tell our customers that coolant maintenance is important.
The reason is that the cooling water has a huge impact on the stable output and lifespan of the oscillator.
In terms of laser maintenance, the management of cooling water cannot be simply considered.
1. Management of water level of cooling water tank and mat filter
Cycle: Weekly
Method:
(1) If the coolant level drops, replenish it. And if the water level is constantly dropping, suspect a water leak.
(2) The mat filter should also be cleaned once a week and replaced if worn out.
2. Maintenance of cooling water tank
Cycle: every 3 months
Method:
(1) Check the electrical conductivity and replace the coolant if the value is over 200 micro Siemens.
(2) Microorganisms cannot grow when Nalco 2594 organic substance inhibitor biocide is added. (For reference, the temperature of the cooling water is maintained at around 24-25 degrees, so it is a very good condition for microorganisms to grow and reproduce.)
(3) When measuring electrical conductivity, turn the chiller switch on for about 5 minutes and then turn it off.
3. Al (KK2 Al) coolant circuit filter
Cycle: every 3 months
Method:
(1) Replacing the filter in the Al cooling water circuit inside the chiller (No.1: dedicated spanner, No.2: Filter housing, No.3: Cooling water (KK2 Al) discharge valve, No.4 coolant (KK2 Al) drain valve)

(2) No.3 and No.4 With the coolant inlet valve closed, loosen the housing using the same spanner as in No. 1 and replace the filter. Do not forget to open the inlet and outlet valves after replacement.
(3) At the same time, the coolant full flow filter and AutoLas filter on the lower left side of the instrument body must be replaced in the same way.
4. Cu (KK1 Cu) Cooling Water Circuit Strainer – It is installed in the chiller of TLF3800 and TLF4000.
Cycle: Every 3 months
Method: Remove the strainer and clean it thoroughly

5. Cooling water replacement
Cycle: every 6 months
Due to the seasonal characteristics of Korea, it is recommended to replace it in November and April.
Method:
(1) Completely empty the tank by opening the bleed screw and extending the drain plug into the drain hole.
(2) Fill the tank with fresh distilled water and measure the electrical conductivity. In general, it is good to keep it below 50-60 microsiemens.
(3) In particular, in the case of November, it should be injected together with antifreeze. At this time, it should be managed so that the electrical conductivity does not exceed 150 micro Siemens.
(4) And in April, when replacing the antifreeze coolant, each tank should be filled to about 60%, and the inside of the Al and Cu coolant circuits should be thoroughly cleaned for 10-20 minutes by adding blue liquid (red) (15ml/100 liters).
(5) After emptying, fill with distilled water 60%, run the chiller for about 20-30 minutes, empty it and fill with distilled water.
As we always emphasize, proper coolant management can significantly extend the life of your laser oscillator and avoid costing you a lot of money.
